Just what are we missing out on?

Pomegranates are good for you – that’s a fact!! Their antioxidant qualities can play an important part in reducing the risk of cancer and heart disease apart from their other uses in popular medicine. Take a look at this picture of two fruits freshly picked from a tree – can you just imagine buying something like that in Tesco!!? In a world where tomatoes are orange and all grow to exactly the same size, quality control would immediately consign our pomegranates to the waste-bin.

But these are fruits doing what comes naturally picked from a tree that excels in everything it does – from the beautiful red flowers of early summer to the most exotic and exciting fruits we see before us. Of course, to local people in Greece, these hugely scarred monstrosities are delightful and highly prized for the benefits of drinking the juice. They may be scarred on the outside, but just take a look when they are cut in half and squeezed. These are fruits of the very highest quality.

The question is, why do we allow our supermarkets to dictate what we should eat and how we should eat it whilst telling us how nutritious everything is and how much they are helping us? We understand that our fruits would not last as long on the shelf as perfectly formed scar-less pomegranates but, of course, shelf-life equals profit. As a result, at a time when diet is the word on everybody’s lips, in the interests of profit, consumers are being denied access to the best produce. It’s high time we demanded a better deal.

Working as a holistic therapist for the past
fifteen years, I and have developed my
own approach to treating clients, as most
therapists do.

What does holistic mean to you in terms of
treatment. Well it’s where the therapist uses
his skills to work out what is going on in both
the mind and the body. The body cannot
work without the mind, therefore the body will
not function efficiently if the mind is ill at ease.

I therefore take the consultation period
seriously and listen to clients as they
tell me about how they feel, and even during treatment more can be revealed. One can determine a lot from visual and verbal information, but without gaining a rapport with the client then the treatment is not as effective.

Trust in the therapist is vital and allows one to try treatments that may take a few weeks to establish and have any effect. Too many people want instant results, and with orthodox medicines they often do get that, especially if its pain relief.  Natural remedies always take longer to get into the system, and work more gently rather than harshly.

The mind is the most powerful tool used in healing, and I choose to use it to help with planting positive messages as part of treatment. Relaxation of the mind is crucial if the body is to find relief from stresses and strains; therefore, part of any treatment should include breathing exercises and energy release techniques, calming systems in order for the treatment to have the most benefit.

The holistic approach in orthodox medicine is to use diet, medication and counseling to do the same thing, and for many people this is a way forward in managing their condition.

“I often think more could be left to nature than we are in the habit of leaving to her, to imagine that she always wants the help of art, is an error too," says Thomas Sydneman (English physician).

There are limits to our understanding, and we still only have scratched the surface with the treatment of the mind, as only a fraction of our brain power is used at any one time.  Therefore, when it comes to unexplainable healing powers, people are not sure what to believe?

Natural Healing is apparently a gift to all of us, and we have the ability to heal ourselves, and with training, to heal others!

Healers are often ridiculed because there is no scientific proof that what they do is provable? Maybe we have to accept more willingly that they are more powerful human beings with gifts beyond our understanding and be grateful that they are there to help anyone who seeks their skills. After all, the Chinese and Japanese have been practicing acupuncture for thousands of years, and its only recently been accepted by orthodox medicine in the use of pain relief.
