This summer, more than ever before, there is a vibrant music scene on Corfu. From Greek folk music to Rhythm & Blues, the 'Emerald Isle' is pulsating in clubs and bars after ten o'clock to the sounds of guitars, bouzoukis, keyboards, and singers in all styles.

Some of the musicians come from Corfu, of course, but many others have travelled here from other countries, such as the UK and Holland.

In this issue we showcase some of the fine artists performing in the Kontokali/Gouvia Bay area this summer. Take a look, and be sure to visit some of the venues where these fine musicians perform.

Oresti Kovi (Corfu's Elvis Impersonator Extraordinaire)

Oresti Kovi is a familiar figure on Corfu. The mutton chop sideburns and pandore

hairdo is a sure sign that The King has come back from the grave.

Immigrating from Albania fifteen years ago,Oresti began impersonating Presley first

at area karaoke sessions, and later as a night club act. The look is vintage Elvis, the

moves have been practiced to perfection, and Oresti has copied The King's voice

and inflections to a tee!

Oresti performs his one-hour act five times each week during summer at Morfes Bar

in Gouvia, Babylon Bar in Sidari, Temple Bar in Ipsos, Drifter's Bar in Dassia, and

other venues across Corfu.

Clare Walker (Caberet Singer)

British song stylist Clare Walker per-

forms at various venues during the

summer season on Corfu. Her

smooth and sultry voice perfectly

punctuates the mellow, jazzy

accompaniments of caberet-style

favourites from Dusty Springfield to

Nora Jones.

Clare is currently performing on

Thursday evenings at Irish Knights

in Gouvia.

Alex - T (Singer & Guitarist)

Alex has played in

Paris, throughout the UK, in Athens,

and now on Corfu!

Alex covers songs by the Beatles, the

Srones, U2, and Oasis as he per-

forms night after night to packed

bars and night clubs.

Alex is currently performing at Irish

Knights in Gouvia, Dirty Nellie's in Ipsos, and Great Shakes in Dassia.

"Groucho" (Song Stylist)

Groucho is a one-man keg of dynamite! Per-

forming songs from the 60's, 70's, 80's and

90's, he will have you off your seat and danc-

ing (maybe on top of the bar) before you even

know what hit you!

Groucho's raspy, bluesy voice, and his peeling electric guitar cuts right to the soul, as he sings favourites from the Stones, the Eagles, Steve Miller Band, and more.

The Good Old Boys (60's & 70's covers)

Gouvia Bay's favourite pick-up band, The Good Old Boys perform and ecclectic mix of 60's and 70's pop standards to the delight of all who see them. Wherever The Good Old Boys are playing, expect to find a crowd. Claim your table close to the stage, because those who come to hear the music seldom leave until the wee hours.
