Year-Round Cheap Flights to Corfu???
It has long been suggested that one answer to Corfu's sagging tourist industry lies in bringing a so-called 'cheap & cheerful' airline like Easyjet or RyanAir into Corfu Airport year-round, and to that end many of Corfu's travel agents, as well as the local politicians have made a considerable (if not successful) effort; but according to Barrie Nielsen, owner and CEO of Sailing Holidays, and also a major player in the UK tour operators association, the addition of scheduled low-cost carriers would necessitate the departure of the charter lines that now service the island, and in the end would create higher (not lower) cost flights to Corfu.
