Horse Trekking - Corfu Style
Corfu is the lushest and greenest of all the Greek Islands, making it a haven for trekking on horseback. Miles and miles of dirt tracks allow one to ride unhindered through the lovely Corfiot countryside. Thousands upon thousands of olive trees provide shade even in the mid-day sun. Trail Riders of Ano Korakiana promises you a feeling of contentment and tranquility as you ride upon nature's most majestic creature: the horse.
After arriving at the stables, guests are introduced to the nine horses, the dogs, and the cats. Here the owner's love of animals is at once obvious. All nine horses are suitable for children, too, because of their quiet nature and their good manners, but they are also spirited enough for more experienced riders.
After each trek, cold drinks are served, and guests are invited to either watch or participate in the after-ride care of the animals, as after each ride the horses are unpacked, showered and fed. Guests are encouraged to bring apples and carrots as a treat for their mount.
"It is necessary for riders to be properly attired," says Sally, the owner and trail guide. "Riders will need long trousers, a T-shirt (or something similar), and a full shoe. If necessary, we provide the correct clothing for the ride. And a good selection of hard-hats is available as well!"
To reach Trail Riders, just follow the HORSETREKKING signs to Ano Korakiana Village. The stables are located only a few kilometers from most of Corfu's popular resorts, and if you don't have a car or motorbike at your disposal, Trail Riders offers transportation to and from the stable. But be sure to book early in your holiday, because availability is limited and popular riding times fill quickly.
