Left:The ruins of the basillica of Palaeoppolis near the entrance to Mon Repos which, according to tradition, was erected by Bishop Jovian, in the 5th Century A.D., in honour of St. Kerkyra. One of the most magnificent basillicas of its time, it had five aisles and two narthexes and was richly decorated with sculptures and mosaic floors.

Left: The Palace of St. Michael and St. George, which stands along the north side of the Esplanade, is one of the finest buildings in Corfu Town and one of its most impressive landmarks. Built in the Georgian style, it is the grandest building of the British period and is unique in the Mediterranean region.
