Kassiopi has been inhabited since antiquity, and in Roman times was a flourishing city.
With an important port, a theater, and a temple dedicated to Cassius Zeus, from which it derives its name, Kassiopi was visited by the Roman orator Cicero and the emperor Nero, who played the lyre and sang before the alter of Zeus.
Today the village has become a lively tourist resort with no shortage of tourist amenities.
